One-On-One Calculus of Life Sessions

As a musical instrument maker, I design and build custom instruments that are more resonant than conventional designs. They help my clients make more music with less work. As a yoga/meditation teacher and craniosacral therapist, I teach my clients how to become more resonant themselves. They become more physically aligned in their bodies, and more energetically in tune with all of life.

My book, The Calculus of Life, is a layperson’s guide to experiencing the same transcendence famous musicians experience at peak moments in performance. But you don’t have to be onstage performing or be a musician to have these experiences! The same level of transcendence the leading musicians experience can be enjoyed by anyone at any time…in any setting and in any activity. From the renewal of physical well-being to experiencing the highest states of transcendental awareness, the practices listed below teach you how to be more of who you have always been at your highest potential.
Calculus of Life Table Sessions
1
Pain Relief Head to Toe: A Full-Body Reset
This introductory table session is the prerequisite for all other mind-body work at my studio. We begin with a guided head-to-toe reference scan that helps you identify and assess any pain, impaired physical function, or energetic disconnections you may be experiencing. This session addresses common structural issues such as:

• Low back stiffness or pain
• Neck and shoulder stiffness or pain
• Pelvis out of level and/or rotated
• Stiff or jammed hips
• Sheared knee joints
• Compressed or painful sacroiliac joints
• Craniosacral misalignments in the face, head, and neck.
Relieving these common structural issues through full-body Craniosacral Therapy and Neuromuscular Re-education restores pain-free alignment throughout your body. You will stand and walk taller, enjoy more effortless movement, and experience a soothing reset of your autonomic nervous system. You will likely sense yourself as being larger than your physical body after a session, and more agile in movement and thought. All this provides a pronounced reset from the frenetic “fight or flight” response that many experience into a restorative and expansive sense of “peace and release”—which the session described below expands upon.
2
Goodbye Stress, Hello Peace and Release
Prerequisite: Pain Relief Head to Toe: A Full-Body Reset
This session builds on the introductory session to provide even more relief and reset from the “survival mode” stress that many are experiencing in these turbulent times. It provides a shift that allows layers of physical tension to unwind into a gentle release. This shift, which starts with learning to recognize your “fluid body,” reminds us that our expansive self is always there waiting, whenever we are ready.
3
Getting Your Head on Straight
Prerequisite: Pain Relief Head to Toe: A Full-Body Reset

This session focuses on releasing tension throughout the body that contributes to common misalignments of the head, neck, and shoulders. The most prevalent misalignment I see in clients is holding the head forward of the spine—a physical manifestation of “getting ahead of oneself.” This is sometimes referred to as “tech-neck” due to our habitual body use around using electronic devices. Having the head extended forward blocks the throat and impairs our ability to breathe and think freely. Other associated issues include having the head off the centerline of the body, tilting the head up or to the side, and holding the head rotated to one side. These misalignments start to clear when common structural imbalances elsewhere in the body are addressed. By identifying and addressing the root causes of our recurring body misalignments, we can free ourselves to accept higher lessons that can inform how we move through all of life.
4
Full-Body Heart Integration
Prerequisite: Pain Relief Head to Toe: A Full-Body Reset

This simple, easy somatic heart integration opens new activations and enhanced levels of being that can seem magical. It builds on the first meditation in my book, the Conduit of Light Meditation, by using a series of hand positions on the body that produce somatic activations into extreme grounding and receptivity—two essential elements in the elevation of awareness. This quickly provides a comprehensive physical/energetic reset that is often beyond what most people know to be possible—until they experience it for themselves!
5
Releasing Old Scripts: Clearing a Stuck Thought or Emotion
Prerequisite: Pain Relief Head to Toe: A Full-Body Reset

Do you have a recurring thought or emotion that you find yourself replaying over and over? Perhaps you have held it in your thoughts or heart for years, or even decades. If it is a burden, are you ready to let it go?
This guided meditation is based on a fundamental truth in life: Our beliefs, thoughts, and resulting behavior will only change or evolve when we achieve a higher level of awareness than that which produced the belief or behavior in the first place. Identifying the location in your body where the troublesome thought or emotion is held is the key to permanently releasing it.
The first step in this session is to address the most pressing aches, pains, and misalignments held in your body. With this clearing reset, we can help you identify the somatic source (the source in your body) of your old pattern of attachment. We then replace it through a simple guided meditation that grounds into higher content. This somatic clearing is quick, painless, and liberating! Clients immediately describe feeling lighter, with more vitality flowing through their body. They often experience improved mental/emotional clarity and balance. This process can free you from the old scripts you have been running, and opens the door to fresh choices and new possibilities inspired by expanded awareness.
6
Migraine Relief and Prevention
Prerequisite: Pain Relief Head to Toe: A Full-Body Reset

Clients who suffer from migraine headaches commonly have skeletal misalignments in their pelvis that put a curve and/or twist in their spine. These misalignments invariably translate to the upper body, locking up the ribs, shoulders, and the vertebral segments of their neck. People who are prone to migraine headaches usually have some degree of alternating left-right shear lesions in their cervical spine, which can take people over the edge into a full-blown migraine headache. Relieving the imbalances in the pelvis and spine through painless Craniosacral Therapy and Neuromuscular Re-education sets up the release of these shear lesions. With this full-body release and reset, the migraine usually dissipates quickly. Keeping future skeletal misalignments in check—and treating them before your neck locks up again—is a key to prevent retrenching into another migraine. Experiencing this session just once gives my clients the ability to recognize and relieve important structural sources of future migraine headaches before they become overwhelming.
7
Good Vibrations: Wind Musician Embouchure Renewal
Prerequisite: Pain Relief Head to Toe: A Full-Body Reset

In wind instrument performance, the lips and other muscles around the mouth, face, and neck need to move freely and independently in order to provide optimum resonance and the most effortless performance. A painless, one-hour embouchure protocol session quickly identifies repetitive stress injuries that can impair the natural resonance of a wind-instrument musician.
The common issues I have helped musicians successfully manage with this protocol include compromised register extremes, lost flexibility, lack of clarity in articulation, and limited dynamic range. Resolving these issues immediately helps you to produce a more consistent, resonant sound.
Some degree of full-body Neuromuscular reset is often included in this session, to pave the way for more specialized Craniosacral work in the face, head, neck, and shoulders. This session is highly interactive; the degree of muscular impairment, and the relief experienced, become obvious in the first few minutes of treatment!

Meditations
1
Introduction to the Fluid Field (Chapters 4 and 11)
Learning to recognize and navigate Fluid Field awareness is a prerequisite for practicing the rest of the meditations described below. The Fluid Field encompasses the physical body and an area extending out approximately two feet beyond the skin. By relaxing, slowing the breath, and expanding your physical orientation beyond physical anatomy and body functions, you can start dissolving into the transformative experience of Fluid Field immersion. As you intensify your immersion, the restorative value of the Fluid Field becomes more and more apparent. Experiencing the meditative and therapeutic value of the Fluid Field is fundamental to the advanced practices found in my book. My clients and friends often find their introduction to the Fluid Field to be a life-changing revelation.

Following your introduction to the Fluid Field, you can explore the following guided Raja Yoga meditations to experience expanded, integrative states of awareness similar to those described in session accounts found throughout The Calculus of Life.
2
The Conduit of Light Meditation (Chapter 13)
Prerequisite: Introduction to the Fluid Field

The goal of this meditation is to experience oneself as a conduit connecting the expansive light of heaven and the unlimited grounding power of the earth. By simultaneously accessing and channeling both of these realms, you can open yourself to experiencing heightened awareness grounded into physical manifestation. The transformational effects of this include elevations into higher states of integrative awareness that can be immediately seen and felt in one’s presence. Acknowledging yourself as a conduit bridging heaven and earth—and then bringing that awareness into more of our daily activities—is fundamental to this meditation and to the practice of my method. This meditation is an ideal warmup exercise for every other meditation in the book.
3
Unwinding and Clearing the Heart Meditation (Chapter 14)
Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fluid Field & The Conduit of Light Meditation

Beyond the vital role the heart plays in our physical health, the more subtle emotional heart holds aspects of sympathy, empathy, and compassion with ourselves and others that define much of our lives. This practice of unwinding and clearing your heart in meditation is an effective way to repair and release residual effects of injuries that many of us hold in the emotional field of our heart.
4
A Simple, Comprehensive, Somatic Heart Meditation (Chapter 15)
Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fluid Field & The Conduit of Light Meditation

This easy, foundational meditation quickly opens new activations and integrations that many people never knew were possible. It builds on the first meditation in the book, the Conduit of Light Meditation, by adding the element of specific hand positions on the body in order to encourage somatic activations into the unlimited, yet grounded, receptivity of the earth.
5
The Cross Motivation Meditation (Chapter 16)
Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fluid Field & The Conduit of Light Meditation

Our actions in life are largely determined by aspects of our cognition. Periodically we all
experience inner conflicts between seemingly divergent perceptions that can impair our effectiveness in decision making. In psychiatry these inner conflicts are known as cognitive dissonance. Moshe Feldenkrais called them cross motivations. Consciously identifying conflicting agendas that are generated by cross motivations can help reduce the confusion that often results from holding mixed feelings or false impressions around a given life situation. This can include conflicts between what we believe, expect, feel, fear, need, remember, sense, think, want, and know. Of all these aspects of cognition, what we know is most easily based on higher intuitive knowledge. It often reflects a more objective truth than other perceptions that are based on more subjective aspects of cognition.

Clearing old patterns of cross motivation can promote present orientation over dwelling on the past or experiencing anxiety regarding the future. This clearing can help you act more spontaneously in the moment, which in turn can produce more opportunity and adventure in life.
6
The Five-Element Cleanse to Gaia Merge Meditation (Chapter 17)
Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fluid Field & The Conduit of Light Meditation

This meditation is a cornerstone in the practice of the Calculus of Life. It involves meditative immersion in the five classical elements: Water, Fire, Air, Aether, and Earth. Experiencing the nature of these elements individually can provide powerful integrative experiences of renewal. Once you are comfortable with engaging each element individually, harnessing the qualities of several elements—and eventually all five elements—in a single session can provide compelling integrative experiences of transcendental unity with all living things. This can include experiencing the planet itself (Gaia) as a living entity.
7
The Calculus of Life Meditation (Chapter 18)
Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fluid Field & The Conduit of Light Meditation
By using this foundational guided meditation to identify what you sense as the somatic origin of your thoughts, emotions, and intuitions, you can consciously develop the connections between your physical body and what you think, what you emotionally feel, and what you intuitively know. These extraordinarily powerful integrations can help you become more aware of the constant interplay between your continually shifting aspects-of-self. This in turn helps you enhance and expand your cognition to enjoy more consistency and effectiveness in all areas of life. The process of differentiating the various aspects-of-self to produce higher states of integrative awareness is the Calculus of Life.
8
The Unified Heart of Compassion Meditation (Chapter 19)
Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fluid Field & The Conduit of Light Meditation

This somatic meditation provides the means to identify aspects of compassion that many people don’t consciously know exist. This is achieved by simply lowering and lifting the hand to sense subtle layers of the heart field extending out from the body. Palpating these layers of compassion produces subtle activations in and around your body—from below the feet to above the head. Experiencing the complete sixteen-step version of this meditation often brings awareness of the Torus Field and the Cranial Tides, as described in chapter 20 of my book. For some, this meditation can bring about awareness of the Source Field—the void of unlimited possibility known as the 5th Element.
9
Exploring the Cranial Tides (Chapter 20)
Prerequisites: Introduction to the Fluid Field & The Conduit of Light Meditation

As living creatures, we are immersed in extended, rarified fields of being that exist beyond most people’s conscious awareness. These fields contain mechanisms of respiration, animation, and renewal that permeate and sustain us in remarkable ways. These mechanisms are the Biodynamic Cranial Tides: layers of subtle, energetic respiration. Meditative techniques for bringing these fields of vitality and renewal into your conscious awareness can provide access to the highest states of being in ways that are tangible, therapeutic, and often euphoric. This is described in detail in a session account that concludes chapter 20 of my book.
